Simple Definition
Hearing aid domes are tiny yet soft silicone tips which are fitted on specific hearing aids. These are located in the ear canal and aid in conducting sound into your ear canal in a clear and comfortable manner.
Where Domes Are Used
All of these domes are typically utilized with Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) and Behind-the-Ear (BTE) hearing aids made by such brands as ReSound and Starkey. They are marketable due to their lightness and ease of use.
Different Types of Domes
Open Domes
Have small holes through which natural sound and air went through. Appropriate to mild hearing impairment.
Closed Domes
Contain fewer openings and give better amplification.
Power Domes
Manufactured to support moderate and severe hearing loss.
Tulip Domes
Covers the ear canal shape.
Why Dome Size Matters
The size that is to be picked is significant. A dome which is small enough can result in feedback. An overly large dome can be uncomfortable or pressurizing in the ear.
Cleaning and Replacement
Regular cleaning of domes should be done and the replacement of domes done after every 2-3 months. With time they may harden, tear or become formless. Their replacement will guarantee improved sound and comfort.
In case you are not confident in the type of dome that will suit you, consult your audiologist.
